And the nerd in me mourns....

Our beloved household Internet gateway, a Linksys WAG354G, died this afternoon. Wei Chieh and I spent a few minutes contemplating its demise. And a good part of an hour powercycling it (between watching episodes of Ed) in order to persuade it to come back to life.

An hour later we had a new router and life is back to normal. Well, almost.

You see, we bought another piece of Linksys kit, being quite fond of the hardware design, the WAG354G's performance (right up till the minute it died, anyway), and the numerous settings in the admin panel. Just wonderful.

Except the WAG54GS doesn't have a 'Reboot' action included in the admin panel. Yup, you read me right. To reboot the thing (hard reboot, that is), one has to walk to the box, push the lit 'Power' button twice, and watch the blinking lights.

I also cannot see the SNR figures for the DSL status any more. This might be some simplification, but I miss it. Ah, well... the days when interfaces were made by engineers, for engineers =p
