The third incarnation of my favoured web browser, Mozilla Firefox, has reached Release Candidate stage, ahead of schedule. You can get it at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html. This step from betas to release candidate is a big one: it means there isn't too long to wait before the final version is out.
I have been using Firefox 3 since the third beta, and I've found it superior to Firefox 2 in many respects. The famous Firefox memory leak no longer seems to happen and the new browser is quite a bit snappier. I really like the new skin especially since Mozilla has made operating system interface integration a part of their theme design: you will have a GNOME-style theme for Ubuntu and a brushed aluminium style on the Mac.
More special features include a now rather intelligent address bar that suggests completed web addresses based on how frequently and how recently you have accessed a page, further support for security certificates, a new bookmarking system, and, oh, I've already mentioned the snappy new interface.
My gripes? It loads a tad slower than IE7, and changing from FF2 to FF3 broke nearly all my extensions. The former I think Mozilla can't do much about (FF3 has been compiled with profile-guided optimizations); the second, given a bit of time, will fall away.
Since I switched from IE6 to FF1.5 years ago I've just been lazy to switch back to IE :P I know IE7 is good and IE8 promises to be better, but for now I think FF3 is king (and iPhone Safari is Queen).
