Is he the right man for us?

This appeared on the Bayern website this week:

Jürgen Klinsmann to succeed Hitzfeld at Bayern

11.01.2008

Former Germany boss Jürgen Klinsmann will succeed Ottmar Hitzfeld as Bayern head coach on 1 July 2008, the club announced on Friday.
The appointment sees Klinsmann return to the club where he won UEFA Cup and German championship honours in a two-year stint as a player between 1995 and 1997. [...]

Although I've never posted this, but ever since I found out that Ottmar Hitzfeld was going to leave us at the end of the season, I was rooting for a certain, famous José to take up the job. Not just because I think he's cool, but because he's actually a good manager and has experienced and perhaps even thrived on the ultra-hot pressure cooking environment the British press provide for anyone brave enough to manage one of the EPL's big clubs. On another hand, his many language skills don't include German, apparently :(

Not to say I think Klinsmann is bad la... he took Germany to the 3rd place in the 2006 World Cup and is known for his innovative coaching methods. And Germany's football in '06 not only won them games, their play was nice to watch as well... if I had not een busy moving, I would've been shopping for DFB jersey... hahaha.

I think we should have someone with a bit more experience though. Germany did exceptionally well in the World Cup '06 partly because they were the home team (home teams are extra strong, I rest my case on Korea in 2002), and Klinsmann has never coached a club side before. There will be a big learning curve for him, he has a very international squad and won't be able to cherry-pick the way a national manager does.

For my team's sake, I hope he does a good job. I hope he brings fresh innovative ideas and brings the best out our top young players like Ribéry and Schweinsteiger and Lell. I also hope we can find better consistency in form, so I don't get scary points in the season where I wonder if we can actually win matches... and I hope we can reach a CL final against MU without history repeating itself :P
